Duoqian Miao, Ph.D, Fellow of the International Rough Set Society (IRSS), Fellow of the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence (CAAI), is a Professor and Ph.D. supervisor at the School of Computer Science and Technology, Tongji University, and Key Laboratory of Embedded System and Service Computing Ministry of Education as vice director.
Prof. Miao's research interests include Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Multimodal Learning for Brain Cognition, Time Series Analysis, Text and Image Understanding, Granular Computing, and Rough Sets, etc. Prof. Miao has published over 200 research papers in prestigious journals and conferences such as IEEE Transactions on Cybernetics, IEEE Transactions on Information Forensics and Security, IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Mining, IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems, NIPS, ICML, AAAI, ACM MM, IJCAI, as well as Chinese Journal of Computers, Journal of Software, Acta Automatica Sinica, Journal of Electronics, and Journal of Computer Research and Development. Over 100 of these papers are indexed by SCI and EI. Additionally, he has edited five granular computing books and authorized 30 patents.
Dr. Miao has led eight projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, two projects under the Specialized Research Fund for the Doctoral Program of Higher Education, and participated in several key national research programs, including one 973 Project, one 863 Project, one Major Research Plan, and one Key Program funded by the National Natural Science Foundation. He has also hosted or contributed to more than 30 provincial and ministerial-level natural science and technology projects. Representative awards include the Education Ministry Science and Technology Progress Award (First Prize, 2007), Shanghai Technology Invention Award (First Prize, 2009), Chongqing Natural Science Award (First Prize, 2010), Wu Wenjun AI Natural Science Award (Second Prize, 2018) by the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence Shanghai Natural Science Award (Second Prize, 2023).
In education, Dr. Miao has spearheaded the development of several high-quality courses, including Principles of Artificial Intelligence (National First-Class Undergraduate Course, 2020), Business Intelligence (Ministry of Education-IBM Excellent Course, 2010), and Chinese Information Processing (Shanghai Excellent Course, 2013; National First-Class Offline Course, 2023). Meanwhile, he has been recognized with the National Teaching Achievement Award (Second Prize, 2009, 2023), the Shanghai Teaching Achievement Award (First Prize, 2009; Second Prize, 2013; Grand Prize, 2022), the Ministry of Education-IBM Excellent Teacher Award (2010), Baosteel Outstanding Teacher Award (2011).
Prof. Miao is President of the International Rough Set Society (IRSS), Reviewer for the National Science and Technology Awards, Panelist for the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Executive Member of the Board and Chair of the Committee of Granular Computing and Knowledge Discovery, CAAI, Honorary Chair of the Granular Computing and Knowledge Discovery Committee, Vice Chair of the Shanghai Association for Artificial Intelligence and Shanghai Computer Society, Member of the Shanghai Academic Degrees Committee for Computer Science, Vice Chair of the Teaching Advisory Board for Computer Science and Technology in Shanghai. He is Associate Editor for the International Journal of Approximate Reasoning, the Editorial Boards of CAAI Transactions on Intelligence Technology, the Journal of Computer Research and Development, the Journal of Electronics and Information Technology, the Journal of Frontiers of Computer Science & Technology, the Journal of Tongji University (Natural Science), etc.
